How A Permanent Gallery Was Renewed Using 90% Reused Materials
A Case Study in Sustainable Exhibition Design
What does sustainable exhibition design look like in practice, and how can we scale it across the museum field? Join us on Wednesday, 18 June, from 14:00 to 17:00 at the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden for an afternoon of insights, reflection, and dialogue.
Using the transformation of the Ancient Middle East Gallery as a case study, we’ll explore how a permanent exhibition was fully reimagined while reusing over 90% of existing materials. This event goes beyond showcasing a solution, it’s a call to rethink how we design and build. Together with museum professionals, designers, and sustainability thinkers, we’ll examine the creative, ethical, and logistical challenges of working with what’s already there.
How can we embed circular design in our institutions? Where do we begin, and what needs to change?
Engage in thought-provoking discussions with our expert panelists:
Anika Ohlerich, Exhibition designer and founder of Archetypisch, specializing in sustainable spatial concepts.
Anna de Wit, Project Manager of Exhibitions at the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, dedicated to socially and environmentally responsible design.
Marije Remigius, Founder of Circu-Leren, championing circular design in interior spaces.
