Museums are the link between the past and the future. We invite you to join us in Tartu, Estonia for the International Committee for Exhibition Exchange’s (ICOM Exhibitions) annual conference, Momentum: Exhibitions and Memory, taking place September 29 – October 2, 2024.

Co-sponsored by ICOM Exhibitions, ICOM Estonia and the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience and hosted by the Estonian National Museum, Momentum: Exhibitions and Memory will provide a space for big conversations, expansive questions, and new ideas. Each day will have a guiding theme and will start with a moderated conversation between two international keynote speakers, followed by concurrent sessions and workshops. The day will end with visits to local museums where participants will have the opportunity to explore, learn, and discuss how museums in Estonia serve their community in new and different ways.

Throughout the 3 days, participants will also have opportunities to network, plan B2B meetings, and explore our host venue Estonian National Museum https://www.erm.ee/en with special behind-the-scenes tours.

Daily themes will include: 

Exhibitions, Memory and the Future

How can exhibitions engage audiences in an understanding of memory and the past to create more just futures?

 Intersection of Memory, Innovation and Exhibitions

Can memory exhibitions be innovative?  What do we gain or lose by using new technologies and approaches to explore memory?

How do Exhibitions Shape Memory? 

In times of conflict, exhibitions can play a key role in shaping how communities view the present.  What is our ethical responsibility and how can we bring communities together?

Momentum will also feature the ever-popular Traveling Exhibition Marketplace along with a series of traveling exhibition workshops and sessions.

Three presentation formats are available: 15-minute Mini Presentations, 45-minute Panel Presentations, 90-minute Workshops, and 3-minute Traveling Exhibition Marketplace Presentations.

Keep in mind:

All sessions will be presented in person; there are no hybrid options this time.

Presentations must be in English.

The deadline to submit applications is April 30, 2024.

Conference registration is required for all presenters.
